Book of Rosedale Recollections, Stories and Curiosities is at the planning stage, and we hope to be able to have it published this year – funds permitting! We have already had some interest in those wishing to buy a copy! We would be delighted to receive more material for possible inclusion – just contact us by email.

Tea and Chat & History meetings of the Rosedale History Society are held be in the Updale Reading Room, Rosedale, on the first Sunday of every month from 2 to 4 pm. (see map on Contacts page). Computer and internet access, research facilities including maps, photographs and census and parish records are available, as well excellent tea and cakes! Please contact Secretary if coming from some distance or during Winter months in case of last-minute cancellation.

The London to Edinburgh Flying Scotsman Endurance Rally for vintage cars built before 1939 went through the dale on Saturday 13 March. There were over 50 wonderful old cars on the rally, which started in London on 12 March and finished in Edinburgh on the following Sunday.
Coming down Heygate Hill their brakes were tested to the full and then they all had to attempt the ascent of Chimney Bank, a 1 in 3 hill that used to be the site for some famous hill climb competitions in the 1920s. One of the best known drivers at Rosedale in those days was Captain Archie Frazer-Nash, so it was a real treat to see one of his original cars being driven with great verve up the Bank over 80 years later!
The vintage of the cars ranged from 1913 to 1941 and all but 11 managed to reach Edinburgh. The winner in the pre 1925 class was a 1925 Vauxhall 30/98 driven by Nigel and Christine Grey and the winners in the pre 1941 class were Paul Carter and John Bayliss in their 1936 Bentley Derby.
