ROSEDALE HISTORY SOCIETY was formed in 2008 to bring together the communities of Rosedale, Thorgill and Hartoft and enable us to form an archive of historical material. This is a story of drama, conflict and huge changes, brought about by church, State and the Industrial Revolution. Our now peaceful and beautiful dale, set deep in the North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers, historians, archaeologists and geologists. It is a fascinating and mysterious place, with many stories to tell.
Our website will give a glimpse of Rosedale history which, we hope, will interest all those with ancestral links to the dale, the many who are interested in the social history of North Yorkshire, not forgetting 19th Century railway and mining enthusiasts.
